How I Got Into Miami Ad School

Six years ago when I told my dad, “I want to study in Miami Ad School” his first reaction was “How much is this gonna cost me?”.

I told him that the tuition is $36K, and then I’ll need a little extra for living expenses. So, $50K would be enough for two years.

He immediately said “Siktir!”, (means “F**k off!” in Turkish.)

It sounds harsh, but he was right! There was no way he could afford all that with his salary. But then he added that if I can find a scholarship he would think about fronting me the rest.

A few days later, as I was aimlessly scrolling on Twitter, I saw that Miami AD School was opening a branch in Istanbul.

Within seconds, I bought the URL; miamiadschoolistanbul.com. So the next day, I created a website and wrote this on the landing page: “You’re just looking at this website but I live with the dream of entering this school.”

It looked exactly like the original Miami Ad School’s site, but after showing my message for thirty seconds, it directed users to www.miamiadschool.com

In a couple of days, my website went viral in Turkey. And with that, I got accepted to the school with a scholarship.

Everything cost $10.

The Turkish Advertising Association announced my scholarship.

My website started an organic conversation about Miami Ad School on Eksi Sozluk. (Reddit of Turkey.)
